Gifted & Talented Students
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
As educators of gifted and talented students, it is important to understand and appreciate variations among GT students. As with any label placed on students, "Gifted and Talented" is not a one-size-fits-all description. Researchers have developed six profiles or types of GT students to help anyone supporting these students better understand their social, emotional, and academic needs.
Profiles of Gifted & Talented Students
Using interviews, literature reviews, and student observations, researchers Betts and Neihart developed six profiles of gifted and talented students to help their parents and teachers understand these unique students. Although few, other studies were done that investigated GT students' intellect, abilities, and interests. Betts and Neihart researched the behavior, feelings, and needs of this population to develop the following six profiles. More information can be found at The Davidson Institute.
